Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida will arrive on a visit to Moscow on September 20-22. Kishida will hold talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, and will participate in the meeting of the Russian-Japanese intergovernmental commission on trade and economic issues.
In its statement the Russian Foreign Ministry said that it expects that the negotiations "will give the necessary impetus to work together to rectify the" relations of the countries. According to authorities, they are now complicated by the addition of Tokyo to Western sanctions.
Kishida and Lavrov will discuss a peace treaty. The Russian Foreign Ministry insists that progress on this issue is impossible "without the recognition of the historical realities of post-war Japan."
